INSTALLING
You can customize the Notes® install kit to add new or third-party features at install or upgrade or to remove certain supplied features from the kit prior to install or upgrade using the procedure outlined here.
About this task
For an overview of the files and directories in the Notes install kit, see the topic Eclipse files and folders in the install kit. In addition, for specific topics referenced in the procedure, see the related links.
Procedure
1. Customize the Notes install manifest (deploy\install.xml) to add new or third-party features or remove certain supplied features.
If you are adding a new or third-party feature, see the topic Customizing the Notes install manifest for new or third-party Eclipse features.
If you are removing a supplied feature from the Notes install kit, see the following topics:
5. Distribute the customized Notes install kit for install or upgrade.
Understanding the Eclipse update site An Eclipse update site is a repository for features and plug-ins and it follows a standard format. The Notes installer uses the update site directory zip file updatesite.zip, which contains a features subdirectory and plugins subdirectory, as well as a site.xml registry. The site.xml registry lists all features that are published from the update site.
Customizing the Notes install manifest for supplied Eclipse features You can edit the supplied Notes install manifest (install.xml) to control which features are available for installation and what the user sees on the feature installation panel.
Customizing Notes using plugin_customization.ini You can use the plugin_customization.ini file to control aspects of HCL Notes installation and usage.
Reducing Notes install kit size You can reduce the Notes install kit size most easily using the UpdateSiteMgr tool on Windows or Mac or by creating a customized rpm or deb install kit on Linux. You can also use this manual method for supported Windows and Mac platforms.
Customizing the Notes install manifest for new or third-party Eclipse features If you have created or otherwise obtained a custom or third-party Eclipse feature to add to the Notes installation, you must create a feature (installfeature) in the Notes install manifest (install.xml) using the same convention as the other features (installfeature) in the manifest.
Customizing a Notes install kit to set certifier and trust defaults You can configure the deploy.nsf application to specify administrative trust settings using an Export option in the server's Domino Directory (names.nsf) to add those settings to the install kit's deploy.nsf application.
Adding and removing components from the Notes install kit using UpdateSiteMgr If you are installing Notes clients on Windows, the UpdateSiteMgr tool allows you to customize the Notes install kit by listing components available for removal, removing components, and adding components.
Validating your customized Notes install kit The customized Notes install kit validation tool leverages an existing Lotus Expeditor install kit validation tool to help administrators ensure that any customization they have done to the Notes install kit, for example adding or removing features from the updateSite.zip and its site.xml index, are valid.
