You can use the database maintenance (dbmt) tool for performing multiple daily/weekly administrative tasks on user's mail database files and other databases. The dbmt tool relieves the administrator of the need to run the Updall task.

About this task

The dbmt tool does all of the following:

• runs copy-style compact operations
• purges deletion stubs
• expires soft deleted entries
• updates views
• reorganizes folders
• merges full-text indexes
• updates unread lists
• ensures that critical views are created for failover

The dbmt tool does not compact system databases. The tool uses a specific list of databases, as follows, for this exception:

• names.nsf
• log.nsf
• admin4.nsf
• ddm.nsf
• lndfr.nsf
• events4.nsf
• statrep.nsf
• dbdirman.nsf
• dircat.nsf
• clubusy.nsf
• domlog.nsf
• cldbdir.nsf
• busytime.nsf
• catalog.nsf
• daoscat.nsf
• mtdata/mtstore.nsf

Procedure

Perform one of the following procedures:

1. Running the database maintenance tool from a Program document
When you run the DBMT tool from a Program document, you can specify additional system databases on which the tool should run, as well as other command line options.

2. Running the database maintenance tool from the server console
You can run dbmt from the server console, using different commands depending on your server platform.
