Notes and Domino
NotesMail - HCL BP | The HCL Domino Development team has identified an issue which will affect *ALL Domino server versions* as of December 13, 2024. If you restart your server, a router error will occur which results in delivery failures due to a routing loop. Also mail rules will also start failing. This is a date/time issue in HCL's code, the area where the defect was found is used to determine if the configuration needs to be updated. Since 13 December this check fails and so the router will not load your configuration. This issue will only appear if Domino is restarted on or after Dec 13, 2024. HCL has issued a warning on Dec 13 to limit the impact. An interim fix was provided within 24h of time - for download details see the table below. This problem is not caused by a recent code change and it does not impact security. This bug exists since 35 years and seem to impact all versions of Domino, it was not detected by IBM nor by Lotus before.
Temporary Workaround (if interim fix not available)
1. The bug causes Domino to only use a single mail.box regardless of settings in the Domino server configuration record, so you must change it to reflect that it is only using a single mail.box...
Open the Domino Directory on the admin server using your Notes client, then click Configurations - Servers - Configurations in the left frame menu as seen below. Edit each Domino server configuration record which has not been patched by the official HCL interim fix. Click Router/SMTP tab - Basics tab as seen below, then in the "Router/SMTP Basics" section verify the "Number of mailboxes" field value is set to 1, otherwise, change it to 1 and click Save & Close button.
 
2. On the Domino mail gateway server (last hop before relaying to SMTP server)... Open the Domino Directory using your Notes client, then click Configurations - Servers - Configurations in the left frame menu as seen below. Edit your Domino mail gateway server configuration record. Click Router/SMTP tab - Advanced tab - Controls tab a seen below, then in the "Undeliverable Mail "section enable the "Hold undelivered mail" field and click Save & Close button. Issue Domino console command: restart task router
 
2. Download the Notes app below which is fully supported by NotesMail - HCL Business Partner. It supports all Domino versions including 10.0, 9.0 and 8.5 which are End of Life (EOL), as well as, single and mutilpe mail router mailboxes. It fixes the mail routing issue, but does not fix the mail rules issue. Open a service case with NotesMail if you have any questions regarding this temporary workaround, otherwise, you can download a copy using the web link below. However, after clicking the web link below you must provide (A) your Domino mail gateway server names in the "Dom. Server names" field and (B) your contact information including name and company in the "Comment" field.

Resolution
To resolve the problem, install the interim fix for your Domino server version and operating system. Installing the interim fix requires the server to run on the latest fix pack of each release, it can not be applied to servers with older fix packs. Interim fixes
listed in the table within the web link below are provided for all Domino releases in mainstream support.
